About Us
The American River Conservancy (ARC) has been an active movement since 1989 in safeguarding rivers and land for life. Situated in the scenic Sierra Nevada foothills, we aim to preserve natural areas and cultural resources while promoting a sustainable relationship with nature. Our headquarters is located at the historical Kane House within the charming Marshall Gold Discovery Park in Coloma, California.
We are dedicated to protecting a diverse array of landscapes within the upper American River and Cosumnes River watersheds. As of now, ARC has successfully conserved over 27,500 acres of crucial habitat, ensuring healthy ecosystems persist within this region.
Our mission extends beyond mere conservation. We offer a variety of educational programs, including school field trips, nature camps, and public hikes, which are all geared towards fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of these vital ecosystems. Our efforts are further bolstered by stewardship initiatives that involve the community in caring for and uplifting the quality and abundance of our land, air, water, and biodiversity.
Current projects include the ongoing development of El Dorado Ranch, intended to become the first wildlife area of El Dorado County, and initiatives like the Salmon Falls Ranch Trailhead Project aimed at supporting recreational activities such as hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian use. Through these projects, we envision a thriving upper American River watershed with resilient forests and vibrant communities.
