About Us
Welcome to Blue Skies Farm, where we have been dedicated to growing produce free from chemicals since 1991. Our founders, Paul and Louise Maki, started this journey with a firm commitment to sustainable agricultural practices. Although we were officially certified organic from 1993 to 2007, a decision to focus on farming rather than paperwork led us to withdraw from the NOP. Nevertheless, we continue to use organic inputs, ensuring fresh, healthy produce for our customers.
Our farm proudly offers a range of seasonal products comprising four main lines: greens, tomatoes, raspberries, and ginger. Early spring sees the arrival of asparagus and an array of greens, soon followed by roots like beets and carrots. Come July, our Mediterranean line takes center stage with garlic, onions, 25 varieties of tomatoes, beans, squash, and herbs. August marks the start of raspberry and apple seasons, while our tropical ginger and turmeric become available starting September.
We enrich our soil with composted horse and llama manure from neighboring farms, alongside winter green manuring and composted leaves, providing a robust foundation for all our crops. When additional nitrogen is required, we supplement with alfalfa meal or bloodmeal, keeping our farm's health in balance.
