About Us

Our farm traces its history back to 1799 when Daniel Boone explored Missouri and pioneered Boone's Lick Trail, which spanned from St. Charles to a salt lick near Boonville. This historic trail gives Boone’s Lick Heritage (BLH) Farm its name, symbolizing the farm's deep roots in the land and our responsibility as its caretakers.

We started our flower farm in 2017 on a parcel of land that was originally part of Boone’s Lick trail. This land has been part of Matt’s family for nearly half a century. Focused on regenerative agriculture, we prioritize soil health by starting all our flowers from seed using a potting mix composed of our Missouri hot compost and vermi-compost. Our farming practices feature permanent raised beds constructed with plenty of bokashi.

We dedicate a season annually to cultivating diverse cover crops that help provide a habitat for insects. This allows a variety of root systems to nourish soil microbes and integrates organic matter with living flora. During the spring, we allocate beds for our late-season CSA, which includes planting a warm-season ensemble with over 20 species such as cowpeas, broom corn, vegetables, radishes, and buckwheat. Our fall and winter cover crops include hardy mixes of cereal rye, oats, and peas.
