About Us
At Fairview Gardens, a farm steeped in history for over 125 years, we have long served the Goleta Valley and its surrounding urban population. Our mission here spans far beyond just agriculture; we aim to educate and inspire young minds about the importance of food and farming. As a community hub, we've also trained many successful farmers and provided a welcoming venue for music and cultural events.
Our farm stands today because the community rallied together to save it from development. It was one of the first to be protected under an active agricultural conservation easement in the country. We're proud to reimagine Fairview Gardens, embarking on a campaign to renew its aging facilities for the future.
The Center for Urban Agriculture, established in 1996, is a 501(c)3 nonprofit located in the heart of Goleta, California. It manages our nearly 13-acre, certified organic farmland, which is encircled by a vibrant community and safeguarded by the Land Trust for Santa Barbara County. Our mission is to preserve the rich agricultural heritage, offer fresh organic produce, showcase sustainable farming techniques, and nurture the human spirit through our educational programs and community events.
We are taking strategic steps to refurbish and support our organization long-term: in Phase 1, we will focus on creating a multifunctional barn, climate-resilient farm planting, and constructing staff accommodations. Followed by Phase 2, which includes building a retail store, kid’s garden, adult teaching garden, and restoring our farmhouse.
