About Us
At Century Farm Winery, guests can immerse themselves in the authentic agricultural heritage of West Tennessee, exploring fields of cotton and corn alongside the enchanting vineyard. The roots of our farm trace back to 1830 when the ancestors arrived from North Carolina and worked the land that now houses our present-day winery. A stroll through our grounds reveals the beauty of roses, antique daylilies, and the state flower, the Iris.
Located in Jackson, Tennessee, our winery began its journey with Jo and Carl O’Cain, and today Jo's son, Bart Horton, continues the legacy. Since Jo’s family settled here over 150 years ago, we have cultivated a diverse range of horticultural crops. Known as the Spivey Farm originally, our property is honored with the “Tennessee Century Farm” designation by the Center for Historic Preservation, affirming that our farm has been under the same family's care for over a century. Like Jo, who was born in the house built by her grandparents in 1910, we cherish our deep family ties to this land.
The winery itself was conceived from Carl's passion for winemaking, beginning with a modest vineyard intended for personal use that expanded to 13 acres. Carl soon shared his love of wine with friends and neighbors, eventually opening Century Farm Winery to the public. Visitors now enjoy our warm, inviting atmosphere paired with the sophistication of award-winning wines. Here at the winery, we handle the entire process from vine to wine—grapes harvested in the fall undergo crushing, de-stemming, pressing, fermenting, aging, bottling, and finally, we offer tastings and sales of the completed wines.
Our reputation blossomed through accolades and recognition in prestigious competitions like the 2010 Indy International Wine Competition and the 2009 Wines of the South Competition, where we proudly earned four medals from four entries in the Indy competition, including a Gold Medal and Best of Class for our 2009 Vintage Chambourcin. Out of eight entries in the Wines of the South Competition, we claimed seven awards, highlighted by a Double Gold for our Traminette.
Our wine selections encompass Dry Reds, Semi-Sweet Red, White and Blush wines, as well as Sweet, Fruit, and Dessert offerings such as Port Style wine. Seasonally, we present festive Mulled wine in winter and refreshing Sangria and Peach Bellini slushes during summer months. Our 100% cranberry juice wine remains a perennial favorite for Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations.
