About Us

Foggy Ridge Cider was established in 1997, nestled within the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains, with a vision to cultivate cider apple orchards. Our founder, Diane Flynt, dedicated herself to 'growing ingredients' by nurturing apples known for their unique bitterness and acidity. These varieties, such as Hewe's Crab, Harrison, Tremlett's Bitter, Ashmead's Kernel, and Parmar, are celebrated for their rich flavors. For over twelve years, our team transformed these traditional cider apples into exceptional cider, marrying age-old practices with modern fermentation techniques. Although we no longer produce cider for retail, our orchards supply high-quality cider apples to skilled cidermakers across the region.

While we released our last batch of cider back in the fall of 2017, our commitment to cultivating top-tier cider fruit remains unshaken. We continue to thrive as a beacon for superior cider ingredient production, ensuring our apples reach the hands of artisans dedicated to the craft. Our endeavors don't end just in growing; we actively engage with our audience through book events that spotlight our founder's new book, "Wild, Tamed, Lost, Revived: The Surprising Story of Apples in the South," enriching the community with tales of apple history and culture.

At Foggy Ridge, tradition isn't just honored—it's reinvented. We take pride in our pioneering spirit and the deep-rooted knowledge of apple cultivation and cider production. This dedication has not gone unnoticed; our founder, Diane Flynt, has gained recognition for her efforts, often participating in events such as CiderCon 2022, where she highlighted the fundamental role of orchards in producing remarkable cider.
