About Us
Homeland Creamery is proud to be a family-owned and operated business by the Bowmans. As six and seventh generation farmers, we have been nurturing and milking dairy cows on the same homestead for nearly seventy-five years. It all began with our grandfathers, who hand-milked just a handful of cows. Today, we collaborate with our friends at Wright Farms in Franklinville, NC, Gerringer Farms in Gibsonville, NC, and Langley Farms in Staley, NC to ensure our customers receive high-quality, local milk. These farms share our dedication to ethical farming practices, and we consider them part of our extended family. The well-being of the cows is paramount, and we take immense pride in their care and management.
Another unique aspect of our creamery is our approach to pasteurization. Unlike most milk today, which undergoes the HTST method for rapid processing, we utilize Vat Pasteurization. This older method involves heating milk in batches at a lower temperature for about 30 minutes. This careful process helps retain a higher percentage of the milk's natural enzymes and beneficial bacteria, enriching both flavor and nutritional value.
Our commitment to sustainability is steadfast. We implement natural farming practices that benefit both cows and the environment. For instance, manure serves as a natural fertilizer, leading to thriving crops. We also practice no-till soil conservation, preserving soil structure and enhancing habitat, while minimizing greenhouse gases. Moreover, the water from our creamery is reused in cleaning our milking parlor. We believe these efforts make for a healthier farm ecosystem and improve the quality of our products.
At Homeland Creamery, our dairy plant is fully comprehensive, producing not just milk but a variety of delightful dairy products, from ice cream to butter. Each product is crafted with the utmost care, promising a delectable 'utterly' experience for our customers.
