About Us
Our organization, Prelado de los Tesoros, stands as a key supporter of La Purísima Mission State Historic Park, a pivotal site that brings history to life. As a non-profit, we are dedicated to the preservation and functioning of the park, ensuring its vibrancy in showcasing California's rich heritage. The mission, a gem within both the California Missions and State Parks, is brought to prominence through our backing.
La Purísima Mission offers an expansive glimpse into the past, being the most comprehensively restored mission in the state. Each year, the mission draws over 200,000 visitors eager to explore the state’s history. Originally established in 1787, La Purísima once spanned nearly 300,000 acres and served as home to the Chumash people and Spanish settlers alike. During its peak era, it was well-known for hides, blankets, and a herding population of thousands of cattle and sheep.
We are committed to enhancing visitor experiences by supporting various enriching programs, providing educational resources, and facilitating opportunities for learning through docent-led tours and historical re-enactments. We also manage resources for animal care and the maintenance of this historic location, ensuring the park remains a welcoming place for community gatherings and educational pursuits.
Our services extend to operating the park’s gift shop, La Tienda, and organizing events that offer guests unique chances to engage with mission life as it was during the 1820s. Visitors can step back in time, experience the craftspeople at work, and appreciate the traditional arts and skills preserved at La Purísima.
