Whether you're considering setting up your own alpaca farm or are on the hunt for a unique gift for the alpaca lover in your life, we stand ready to assist. Our team boasts considerable experience, and our website is structured to guide you meticulously through every stage of the process. Just as every great adventure has its beginning, ours starts with introducing you to the world of alpacas.
Alpacas are remarkable animals. As descendants of the Vicuna, they have been cherished in South America for over 6,000 years. In the 14th century, they were well-known during the Incan Empire, only to face near extinction due to the Spanish conquest in the mid-15th century. These beloved animals owe their continued existence to the native South American communities who preserved them by retreating into the Andes Mountains. Though today's alpacas may not be identical to their ancestors, they remain highly valued by those dedicated to their care.
The United States officially began importing alpacas from South America in 1984. Although the borders for alpaca imports quickly closed to maintain the integrity of the U.S. market, the focus has shifted to enhancing the genetic lines available here. Our goal is to improve the quality of alpaca fleece and extend the production of this luxurious fiber for wider availability.
Llamas and alpacas, both members of the Camelidae family, may seem similar at first. This unique family includes seven species with distinctive traits, such as the single-humped dromedary camel native to Africa and the Bactrian camel found in China and Mongolia. Guanacos, llamas, vicunas, and alpacas hail from South America. Aside from their notable long necks, a signature feature of this family is the absence of functioning hooves. Discover more about these remarkable animals and the differences between llamas and alpacas through our blog.
