Ransom County "A Destination for all Seasons," offers an abundance of outdoor nature activities and cultural heritage events. Explore the Sheyenne National Grasslands, 70,000 acres of native prairie tallgrasses where the prairie chicken and white fringed orchid and, 850 of North Dakota plant species may be found in this ecosystem. The Sheyenne State Forest 507-acre area features the only natural waterfall in North Dakota, mineral springs and a scenic overlook of the rolling hills. The North Country Trail, the 4600 mile trail from New York to North Dakota, has an estimated 30 miles of certified trail through Ransom County for hiking,birding and wildflower nature tours. ANNUAL EVENTS Norski Days is a three-day Scandanavian festival held the first full weekend in February in Fort Ransom, which includes Norwegian buffets, a fishing tournament, snow sculpting, skiing, Hagar and Helgo look-alike contests, horse wagon rides, polka worship service, and an old time dance. The Sheyenne Valley Arts and Craft Association Fall Craft Festival features 200+ artisan and crafters in Fort Ransom, ND. The Sunflower Festival in Enderlin is a five day celebration of the fall harvest with a variety of food vendors, entertainment, and 5K race. Sodbuster Days held in July and in September celebrates the early pioneer homesteading methods to include farming, haying, cooking, blacksmith shop, spinning, silversmithing and tours of the antique machinery exhibit displays on the historic Sunne Farm. The Ransom County Fair is held the fourth weekend in August and includes a junior livestock show, vegetable garden exhibits, poultry and sheep judging, moto-rcross, horse competitions, commercial exhibits, parade and entertainment.
