About Us

Nestled within the picturesque landscape of Vermont, Rokeby Museum is a treasure trove that unveils a significant chapter of the Underground Railroad. For generations, from 1793 to 1961, the Robinson family made this site their home, and today, it stands as a testament to their history as abolitionists, artists, and farmers. Here, visitors can delve into a world where each building holds its own story.

The museum features a permanent exhibition titled 'Seeking Freedom: The Underground Railroad and the Legacy of an Abolitionist Family.' This exhibit vividly portrays the complex journey of the Robinsons from enslavers in the past to fervent abolitionists, contributing significantly to the fight against slavery in the United States.

Aside from the exhibitions, Rokeby boasts a network of trails winding through its scenic expanse, open year-round for hiking enthusiasts. The nine historic buildings invite exploration and offer unique insights into the rich legacy of the land and its former inhabitants. Throughout the year, the site also hosts various events and programs designed to educate and engage visitors of all ages.

Volunteers play a vital role at Rokeby, and the museum welcomes those eager to be part of this vibrant community, whether it be leading tours or maintaining the trails. Moreover, Rokeby offers a range of educational experiences catering to students of all levels—from elementary to college—and extends its programs to lifelong learners and businesses.

Though the museum is currently closed for the season, looking ahead, it remains committed to preserving and sharing its rich history with future visitors. Preparations for the 2025 reopening are underway, promising an enriching experience for all who step through its doors.
