About Us
Wakamatsu Farm, located in Placerville, California, holds a special place in history as the original site of the Wakamatsu Tea and Silk Farm Colony, established on June 8, 1869. This landmark serves as the site of the first Japanese colony in the USA, the birthplace of the first Japanese American, and the grave site of the first Japanese immigrant and woman buried in the USA.
Our farm offers a place where the community can engage with natural resources, sustainable agriculture, and cultural history. By maintaining a vibrant and biologically diverse landscape, volunteers and partners help restore historic structures and habitats. Visitors are welcome during scheduled tours, events, and programs to experience this unique setting.
Through the years, Wakamatsu Farm has been a source of healthy, organic food, supported by resident and independent farms that exemplify resilient agricultural standards. Our Education Center was enhanced in 2023, thanks to generous supporters, to continue hosting learners and visitors.
