About Us
Located in the heart of Trinity County, California, The Watershed Research and Training Center is a dynamic non-profit organization committed to the full spectrum of land and watershed management services. We are at the forefront of biomass and fire resilience initiatives and work collaboratively with communities, organizations, and public agencies to enhance our landscape, provide quality jobs, and foster a connection between people and the land. Our mission extends beyond management, as we are dedicated to sustaining vibrant communities with healthy landscapes.
Our programs are focused on diverse realms such as forestry and fuels management, prescribed fire, watershed and fisheries stewardship, youth development, and recreation. We strive to innovate land stewardship practices and share our methodologies with other communities, aiming for vibrant communities, healthy environments, and sustainable economies.
On a statewide level, we are recognized leaders in fire and forest management, biomass utilization, and capacity building for these critical areas. We conduct training programs like the Beneficial Fire Training, support teams like the California Forest Biomass Working Group, and provide materials in Spanish to reach a broader audience.
At a national level, we maintain a network devoted to adapting to frequent fires, shaping what it means to live with fire, and showcasing new approaches to land management through partnerships with the US Forest Service.
Our work is deeply rooted in community engagement. We encourage public involvement through various educational programs, volunteering opportunities, and events. We believe in harnessing collective efforts to care for rural landscapes while supporting community resilience and cultural ties.
